I saw on the recruiting thread that there is interest in 6'7 Dodge City CC forward Chuck Coley.

Ok, so I will be the first to bite.
Since several little birds have all suggested that Chuck has already "allegedly," "just about", "actually" verballed...anyone know anything for sure? And maybe I am just burnt out on 6'7 athletic Wing-guys...but can we find a guy that's 6'9 or 10 or 11...pretty please. A good shooting guard maybe. I can't find anything reliable from his college's website (in terms of stats) but he has had some good performances. Based on the video....he is going to have to be a lot more active to be successful in Div 1 (not that the video shows a whole lot). Here is what I found: http://www.charlotte49ers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/coleyiii_charlie00.html check the fro Although if this is him (Dodge CIty) then he's already in the A10...so maybe there's another. I could take this stat line and 40 inch verticle. http://www.kjccc.org/basketball/0809/stats-M/dod/highplayer_9.html Again hard to tell but this guy is pretty exciting.

That is Charlie Colie. He graduated last year for Charlotte. He was in the College Dunk contest last season. Here's Chucks pic http://www.dc3.edu/basketball/picroster.htm
I could only find his stats through 9 games but he averaged 8.2 points, 6.8 rebs, 66% from the line, hit a couple three's..stats through only 9 games don't mean much. We'll have to follow his progress this season. All I can tell from the video is that he's a tall long wing with great leaping ability. Probably has a high ceiling for improvement. |

Coley, Coley In Free? | ||
|
Let's hope they sign somebody. Coley is a 6-7 product of John I. Leonard High School in Lake Worth, Florida, who lives in West Palm Beach. He was not
highly touted out of high school even though he scored at a 20 ppg clip with 10 rpg. He's grown a little since then and played well as a freshman last year
at Dodge City. He averaged 9 ppg in 30 games, shooting .518 from the field, .351 from three-poinit land, .654 from the linie and had a team-leading 23 blocked
shots. He was second on his team in scoring to 6-1 guard Rodney Clinkscales, who transferred to SMU after his freshman season. Obviously, Dodge City plays in
the same Jayhawk League that produced Nyika Williams from Barton County CC.
Looks like Stockon is more attractive to kids playing in Kansas than it is Californians. Anyway, let's hope we get him. He visited so he was offered. |

Good info.Where did you score those stats from Sacto? I was on NJCAA website and only saw stats through 9 games. If Coley signs I'd like to see the next
scholarship go to a big out of high school, maybe that Jordan Railey kid out of Oregon looks like a good pick up.

I wrote Coley's coach Brady Trenkle an email and he was kind enough to answer some of my questions. Here is what Coach Trenkle said,
Chuck committed to Pacific last week. He is a 6'7 wing that is a good athlete. He is can really rebound the ball well on both ends. He can really shoot the 3 well. He is a very good get for them. He plays all wing for me. How they use him is up to them. He is very thin only about 195lbs.

It sounds like the coaching staff realized Ritchart was not coming, so they set their sites on the next option-Chuck Coley. Maybe a pipeline is developing
from the Jayhawk Conference to Stockton. I like Coley's rebounding and shot blocking skills, although he will have to find a good hamburger and milkshake
joint close to the weight training center.
I agree with stiggy and BKcheer on landing a high school center, and I concur that Jordan Railey from Beaverton would be an excellent sign. That would leave an option for the third opening for another post player or a big two guard(probably from the JC ranks). And Jon, thanks for the good info from the DodgeCity CC coach. Hopefully, this first commit translates in positive momentum in landing a big man. |

The stats came from the (Kansas) Jayhawk Conference website. I worked my way from there to basketball, men's basketball, 2008-9 archives. You'll be
able to follow him there this year and on the Dodge City CC website. Last year, Barton County's website did an excellent job of keeping up on its
basketball team with updated stats each day and game box scores.

Excellent work to all of you. Chuck, Charlie/ Charlie, Chuck...I knew one of you would sort it out.
Here, here to our fearless leader for having the gumption and intelligence to email the coach and get us some details, we clearly aren't going to get from our media sources. Go Pacific Tigers Sports board! You are right Jon, 6'7 guys who fly high and can really shoot the 3 are good for me too. I am just REALLY sick of 6'7 guys who are described as "athletic" and who "play above the rim" i.e. don't develop. I also am going to surmise that this pick up is acknowledging the fact the Royal me not be developing/ healing as hoped. I have been told from multiple sources that Richart was a bit of a bust on his visit (actually described as "weak") and that is what caused the Tigers to let up on the recruiting accelerator a bit. It may be sour grapes, but considering that this kid (Coley) was signed before (or about the same time) that Richart committed to Davis...I would say there is some truth to this version. I still don't know what the attraction to Richart was. Time may kick me in the butt on this one, but I am kind of glad we didn't land him...I don't know that he would have made us better. I have also been told that Railey is (and has been) the Pacific's big desire. He would provide continuity and have time to develop behind Sam and Williams. |

Let up on the recruting accelerator? | ||
|
Ricthart had an offer on the table. He wasn't here for tryout. The attraction was his performance in high-caliber AAU competition this summer. The Tigers may well have taken both Ritchart and Coley -- one or the other would have redshited next year. They stepped on the Coley accelerator when Ritchart failed to fall in love with Pacific early last month. Find out who else offered Coley and what other visits he went on.
